Deaf Emergency Information
Deaf Emergency Information is an important resource for deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing Victorians, especially those living in regional areas. The Deaf Emergency Information provides information in Auslan and assists in the preparation and independent decision-making in the lead up to, during and after times of natural disasters such as bushfires, floods, severe storms and extreme heat events.
The Deaf Emergency Information resources consists of a website www.deafemergencyinfo.com.au which contains Auslan videos with optional English captions and a downloadable and printable PDF booklet. The PDF booklet can also be used by deafblind people using Acrobat’s accessibility features.
The Deaf Emergency Information website and resources was launched on Thursday 22 October at Morwell CFA Fire Station. Members of the Gippsland deaf community, representatives from various emergency services organisations, State Government departments and Vicdeaf staff were all present at the launch.
This project was made possible from funding by the State Government’s Regional Development Victoria and partnerships with Emergency Management Victoria, Country Fire Authority, Victoria State Emergency Services and Department of Human and Health Services.
