Expression of Interest - Deaf Central Portal Project Officer

Expression Australia is inviting expressions of interest for a new role - Deaf Central Portal Project Officer. 

We are looking for someone to join our team on a part-time basis, working 3 days per week for a fixed-term of 12-months.

The Deaf Central National Portal project will be an interactive, web-based information, learning and referral platform. It will provide guidance and tools for people with a hearing loss, their families and support networks.

The purpose of the Deaf Central Portal Project Officer will be to assist in the collation, review and creation of local and national information about existing services, supports, information and resources that could be added to the portal. The Deaf Central Portal Project Officer will also be responsible for consulting with local Deaf Society staff and the community to seek feedback and will undertake user acceptance testing (UAT) during the build and test phase of the project.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with: 

  • Fluency in Auslan as a native signer/CODA preferred

  • Knowledge of the Deaf Community

  • Well-developed written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Experience in technology/program/project development an advantage

Expression of Interest – Early Childhood Auslan Teachers

We are inviting expressions of interest across Victoria for the full time and part time roles of Early Childhood Auslan Teacher.

In this role you will be delivering sessional Auslan Early Learning Programs in Victorian kindergartens.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Fluent Auslan skills, and knowledge of the Deaf community and culture
  • Teaching experience in early childhood education and care settings (preferably in an accredited kindergarten program) 
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • A Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood Education
  • Other early childhood (e.g. Diploma in Early Childhood Education) or teaching (Bachelor of Education, Primary) qualifications will be considered
  • Well-developed interpersonal and time management skills
  • Membership of ATAV (Auslan Teachers' Association of Victoria) or other professional bodies advantageous

Expression Australia, formerly known as Vicdeaf, is a progressive not for profit organisation that has supported Deaf and hard of hearing individuals for over 130 years.

We are inviting expressions of interest from people all over Victoria and Tasmania for the role of Casual Support Worker. 

The position is casual, and in this role you will be supporting individuals to successfully achieve their identified goals. The role will provide support that is tailored to meet the needs of an individual. This may be to develop independence, learn & develop new skills, engage with local community, or become empowered to lead a successful life. We believe everyone has a right to be part of their local communities as well as to learn skills to lead a more independent life.

Ideally, you will be comfortable working with a variety of people, ages, backgrounds and support needs. You will be confident in your ability to provide a quality professional service to all individuals. 

Experience working in the Deaf or hard of hearing community is highly desirable, including working with Deaf and hard of hearing people with complex support needs. 

Auslan competency or experience with communicating with people with a hearing loss is highly desirable and important for successful performance in the role. 

This role will provide support over a variety of hours including weekdays, evenings and weekends. 

 Key responsibilities are:

  • Support individuals to work through and achieve their identified goals
  • Provide support to increase skills, independence and participation within the community
  • Liaise with families, parents, support coordinators and other relevant community organisations, if required
  • Attend to administration tasks including case notes, claim forms and service improvement ideas

You should have either completed or have interest in completing a Certificate IV in Community Services, or have another relevant qualification and/or relevant work or life experience.

Expression Australia’s language services department, Auslan Connections, is seeking expressions of interest for casual interpreters, who are either NAATI Certified or at the Certified Provisional level. As an interpreter, you will provide effective delivery of Auslan interpreting, including ethical management of assignments for organisations, Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, and other clients.

 This role is ideal for interpreters motivated to provide a high quality service to the Deaf and wider community to allow access and clear communication in a wide variety of settings.

Preferred credentials

  • NAATI Certified Auslan interpreter
  • Qualification in Interpreting
  • Experience in a variety of settings

Minimum Credentials

  • NAATI Certified Provisional Interpreter
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity available for someone to join our Learning & Training team as Program Manager. In this new role, you will lead the operational and business aspects to ensure the State Government’s Early Childhood Language Program and other key Learning and Training programs at Expression Australia are delivered successfully. You will also be responsible for the management of our Learning and Training Coordinator and casual pool of Auslan Teachers and will take on a leadership role in line with Expression Australia’s strategic objectives.

About you

We are looking for someone with demonstrated leadership skills and a strong understanding of the education sector, including delivery of training (accredited and non-accredited) programs and services, with knowledge of Auslan learning pathways.

In addition to the above, you will bring to the role:

·         Demonstrated experience managing staff

·         Excellent interpersonal skills

·         Well-developed communication skills

·         Sound knowledge of the Auslan National Curriculum and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF)

·         Well-developed organisational, administrative and time management skills

Qualifications in teaching and/or project management are preferred.

Successful candidates must hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and will be required to undergo a National Police Check.

As regular travel in metropolitan and/or regional Victoria will be required, you must hold a full Drivers Licence.
