Support Coordinator

As a Support Coordinator you will be responsible for implementing NDIS plans into action whilst linking and support participants to enable accessibility, inclusivity and empowerment into the wider community.

This position is a full time postiion available either Melbourne or Hobart (TAS).

Responsibilities include:

  • Build strong relationships with participants, NDIS planners and service providers
  • Support NDIS participants, their families and carers to understand and engage in the NDIS
  • Coordinate NDIS supports in relation to individual plans whilst maintaining a person-centred, capacity building and goal-focussed approach
  • Support participants to build their capacity in maintaining positive relationships with their supports
  • Monitor billable hours and ensure that claims for payment are lodged accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Maintain accurate records of work carried out, in accordance with legislative and audit requirements
  • Produce progress reports in accordance with NDIA requirements
  • Be part of a dynamic and dedicated team

About you:

  • Experienced Support Coordinator with demonstrated experience in managing a complex caseload, dealing with crisis situations, finding and developing solutions and writing assessments and reports.
  • You have a positive, resilient and flexible attitude, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
  • Can move easily between participant supports and administrative work
  • Competency in Auslan
  • An understanding of access and equity issues for metropolitan and regional deaf and hard of hearing people, with and without additional disabilities, will be well regarded.

Reconnect Coordinator  – Deaf/Hard of Hearing

This is a full time position based in East Melbourne. 

The Reconnect program funded by the Department of Education (DET) to provide long-term wrap-around support to individuals of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds living in Victoria who are experiencing significant and complex barriers to participating in further education, training and employment.

The Reconnect Coordinator role is responsible for proficiently coordinating the establishment of services for disconnected Deaf or Hard of Hearing community members into study or work and will adhere to the Reconnect Grant Agreement guidelines. The Reconnect Coordinator will form part of the broader Learning and Training team and will be proactive in its approach to community mapping, identifying eligible clients and creating pathways for their re-engagement into study and/or employment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the Reconnect program including promote and build partnerships and pathways with external organisation and service providers
  • Identify and create a caseload of Reconnect participants
  • Meet program outcomes (KPIs)
  • Ensure administration is kept up to date include record keeping of client files
  • Facilitate pathways for participants into further education, training, employment and community participation
  • Support clients by lining them to appropriate locate services, and assisting client navigate system to access information
  • Provide advice and support to clients

 About you

  • Previous experience/ability to maintain a caseload of clients
  • In-depth understanding of the Deaf and hard of hearing community

Expression of Interest - Casual Residental Support Workers

We are inviting expressions of interest for the role of Residential Support Worker. 

The Residential Support Worker position is casual and will be based at our Accommodation Services premises in Nunawading. At Accommodation Services, we provide 24/7 residential services to Deaf residents with various disabilities. 

As one of our Residential Supoort Workers, you will support residents to live the life they choose, which can involve support with accessing the community, developing independent living skills and attending personal appointments. You may also be responsible for the administration of resident's medication and there is a component of reporting, documentation and administration involved in the role. 

Ideally, you will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of Deaf culture, language and communication strategies
  • Native or native-like fluency in Auslan, with Auslan or Interpreting qualifications preferred
  • Minimum Certificate III in Community or Disability Services (preferred)
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • First Aid Level 2
  • Experience working with Expression Australia client cohorts, including people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, LGBTIQA+ or those with disabilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience in cooking meals and with food safety and hygiene
  • Awarness of appropriate and relevant technology and assistive devices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive and flexible attitude, and the ability to resolve conflict quickly
  • Flexibility to complete sleepovers and weekend shifts

Experience working in the Deaf or hard of hearing community is highly desirable, including working with Deaf and hard of hearing people with complex support needs. 

Auslan competency or experience with communicating with people with a hearing loss is highly desirable and important for successful performance in the role. 

This role will provide support over a variety of hours including weekdays, evenings and weekends. 

 Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Support individuals to work through and achieve their identified goals
  • Provide support to increase skills, independence and participation within the community
  • Liaise with families, parents, support coordinators and other relevant community organisations, if required
  • Attend to administration tasks including case notes, claim forms and service improvement ideas

You should have either completed or have interest in completing a Certificate IV in Community Services, or have another relevant qualification and/or relevant work or life experience.

Expression Australia’s language services department, Auslan Connections, is seeking expressions of interest for casual interpreters, who are either NAATI Certified or at the Certified Provisional level. As an interpreter, you will provide effective delivery of Auslan interpreting, including ethical management of assignments for organisations, Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, and other clients.

 This role is ideal for interpreters motivated to provide a high quality service to the Deaf and wider community to allow access and clear communication in a wide variety of settings.
