Deaf History Digitisation Project Launched
After Vicdeaf’s Annual General Meeting on Monday 26 October at the State Library of Victoria, the History Digitisation Project was officially launched by Project Coordinator, Sophie Li. Sophie thanked Public Records Office Victoria and Museums Australia (Victoria) for funding and continued support for the project. Sophie then showed key stakeholders, deaf and hard of hearing people how to access the deaf history collection online on Victorian Collections website and Vicdeaf YouTube channel.
As Vicdeaf has a large amount of historical resources, they will continue to be uploaded over the next few months.
Open a web browser on any device (computer, laptop, smart device, phone). Search for “Victorian Collections” or go to the website here: www.victoriancollections.net.au.
Go to the search bar on Victorian Collections website, and on the Search field, type Vicdeaf then click Search button. See below:
A list of historical resources will show. You can click on any to find more details. For example, you want to find more information about “Deaf Citizen”, click on the image, see below.
You will see more information about the newsletter called “Deaf Citizen”, including images. If you want to download the “Deaf Citizen” newsletter in full, click on the underlined pdf file under “Attached Files”. In this document, find and click on “The Deaf Citizen newsletter 1931.pdf”. See below:
NOTE: In order to download, make sure you are on a computer or a device that can save files.
Save the file on your computer, and then open the file to view the full newsletter.
