Reconnect Coordinator

Role Overview:

The Reconnect Program funded by the Department of Education (DET) aims to provide comprehensive support services (or “wrap-around support”) to Deaf, Hard of Hearing and LGBTIQA+ identifying individuals who are experiencing significant and complex barriers to participating in further education, training, and employment.

As a Reconnect Coordinator you will lead the coordination of services for disconnected community members back into study or work. Services that the Reconnect Coordination may engage include: education providers to ensure access needs are provided, wrap around supports such as mental health and funding to access mental health services, course and career counselling, ensuring that services are appropriate and cater for cultural and linguistic diversity.

Working within the Expression Employment Team, The Reconnect Coordinator, will also be proactive in their approach to community outreach, identifying eligible participants and creating pathways for participant re-engagement into study and/or employment.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role such as Disability Employment Consultant or Equity/Disability Liaison Officer, or other relevant case management or social work experience.

In addition, knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities, Auslan and barriers to participation is highly regarded..

This position is based at the Expression Australia Head Office in East Melbourne, with flexible working arrangements available.

Role Focus:

  • Identify caseload of eligible Reconnect participants, who will be predominately Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and work with them to achieve their work or study goals
  • Build partnerships and referral pathways with external organisation and service providers to help support client pathways
  • Maintain records of clients and engagement
  • Comprehensively understand and Reconnect Grant Agreement to maintain compliance and quality, while meeting defined outcomes.
  • Provide monthly updates to the management team

Skills Essential:

  • Understanding of Government Grant agreements and guidelines
  • Caseload management experience
  • Excellent client management system and record keeping skills
  • Strong problem solving and think outside the square attitude.
  • Ability to establish and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Have a solution focused and positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills including Auslan fluency
  • Adaptable and supportive team player
  • In depth understanding of the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
