People from all walks of life choose to support our work in this meaningful way.

Why make a Will?

A Will is a powerful way to show of your values and commitment to those that we support. Your Will is a way to ensure that you can do more of what you value, even after your own lifetime.

After providing for your family and the people important to you, please consider leaving a gift in your Will to Expression Australia (legal name: Victorian Deaf Society). Every gift makes a real difference to those who benefit from our work, and we work hard to ensure that every dollar creates the change that our clients and community want and need.

Ways to leave a gift in your Will

Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the most valuable and lasting ways you can support our work. There are a number of ways you can include our work in your Will.

Option 1: Leave a share of your Estate
The easiest way to leave a gift to Expression Australia (Victorian Deaf Society) is to leave the ‘residue’ of your Estate - known as a ‘residuary bequest’. This is the remainder of your Estate once your family and loved ones have been provided for. This way of leaving a gift means that you don’t have to change your Will if your financial situation changes.

Option 2: Leave a fixed sum of money
You may wish to leave a fixed sum of money - known as a ‘pecuniary bequest’. This type of gift does not allow for changes in your circumstances and needs to be reviewed regularly.

Option 3: Leave a specific item of value
You may wish to leave us a specific item - known as a ‘specific bequest’. It can be property or an item of value such as shares, artwork or jewellery. It can be either used to support our work, or be sold. You can also choose Expression Australia (Victorian Deaf Society) to be the beneficiary of life insurance policies.

The making of a specific bequest should not give rise to any stamp duty or capital gains tax consequences for your estate.

Wording to include in your Will

Remember that our legal name is “Victorian Deaf Society” and our registered address is 4/340 Albert Street, East Melbourne, VIC Australia. Our ABN is 56 004 058 084.

All forms of bequests will aid our work and services for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing or experience barriers to participation. Once you have decided which option best suits you, we recommend the following wording for your Will.

“I give to Expression Australia (legal name: Victorian Deaf Society) of 4/340 Albert Street, East Melbourne in the state of Victoria

  1. the residue of my Estate, or
  2. ...% of the residue of my Estate, or
  3. the sum of $..., or
  4. the specific item(s) ...

for its general purposes and I further direct that the said bequest shall be paid free of all taxes and duties and that the receipt of the Treasurer of the Victorian Deaf Society for the time being shall be sufficient discharge of my executor(s)."

If you use wording other than the above provided, please ensure you state Expression Australia’s full name and address - Victorian Deaf Society of 4/340 Albert Street, East Melbourne in the state of Victoria.

Should you already have a Will, you may consider making a Codicil to incorporate a bequest to us. We recommend you obtain professional legal advice on the wording of your Codicil.
