Deaf Auslan users and experienced educators lead all training sessions, ensuring learning is authentic, respectful, and culturally appropriate.

Auslan Training Pathways
Our Auslan Training is delivered through three structured community training levels. Together, these trainings are designed to prepare learners for further formal study, including the Certificate II in Auslan through TAFE or Melbourne Polytechnic (MPT).

| A foundation training for beginners with no prior experience in Auslan. Auslan 101 introduces learners to basic Auslan vocabulary, everyday communication, and key aspects of Deaf culture. The focus is on building confidence using Auslan in simple, real-life situations. This training supports learners to: * Develop basic conversational skills * Understand visual communication strategies * Learn Deaf cultural protocols * Begin using Auslan in everyday convexts |
Build on foundational skills and expand everyday communication. Auslan 102 focuses on developing more confident and sustained conversations in Auslan. Learners expand their vocabulary, improve fluency, and explore how meaning is expressed through movement, facial expression, and space. This training supports learners to: * Hold short conversations in Auslan * Use a wider range of vocabulary and structures * Improve receptive and expressive skills * Apply Auslan in social and community settings |
Develop fluency through real-world topics and contexts. Auslan 103 builds on previous learning and focuses on communication related to everyday life, interests, and experiences. Learners refine their language skills and develop greater confidence communicating across a range of situations. This training supports learners to: * Communicate about lifestyle, work, and interests * Improve accuracy, clarity, and fluency * Understand variation and natural language use * Prepare for further Auslan study |

Pathways to Certificate II in Auslan
Our Auslan 101, 102, and 103 training programs are designed to provide a clear learning pathway to formal Auslan qualifications.
Successful completion of these trainings enables learners to progress to the Certificate II in Auslan, delivered by TAFE institutes or Melbourne Polytechnic. While Expression Australia does not deliver Certificate II qualifications, our community trainings help learners develop foundational language skills and confidence required for further study.
