Funded by Telethon, CODA Compass addresses unique challenges such as language deprivation and the emotional burden of family interpreting by providing culturally relevant resources and community support.
Key Activities & Resources
- Content Development: Creation of a new series of illustrated books and workbooks featuring diverse multicultural CODA characters to serve as positive role models and to teach resilience.
- Interactive Workshops: Delivery of hands-on sessions in schools and libraries using role-play to practice positive self-talk and problem-solving.
- Community Building: Hosting "positive reflection time" sessions where families can share experiences and process emotions in a safe space.
Collaboration Strategy
The program is actively working to establish formal agreements with key community stakeholders to facilitate delivery.
- School of Special Education Needs: Sensory (SSENS): We are engaging with SSENS to potentially utilise their network to reach vulnerable students and distribute resources.
- City of Fremantle Library: We are seeking to collaborate with the library to provide a community-based venue for workshops and story sessions outside of the school environment.
Program Goals
- Resilience: Equip 80% of participants with the ability to identify and reframe negative thoughts.
- Engagement: Increase family participation by 20% through targeted outreach.
- Reach: Expand delivery to at least two new schools or community organisations to support a broader demographic of families.
We've developed a Resource Hub as part of this project.
