I am Deaf Campaign
Over the last year, we have been working on setting up a marketing campaign aiming to encourage business owners to employ Deaf and hard of hearing people.
We were successful in getting funding under the NDIS Information, Linkages and Capacity Building grant to develop a campaign to achieve these goals. The process we undertook was one of co-design - we consulted with Deaf people and workshopped the experiences, barriers and opportunities that Deaf and hard of hearing people have experienced in gaining employment.
We used this knowledge to develop 5 stories about different kinds of workers, and recruited Deaf actors and real Deaf employees to play the roles of the people in the stories.
The campaign focused on 5 employment areas:
- a Hairdresser
- a Courier
- a Visual Merchandiser
- a Cleaner
- a Community Support Worker
This campaign is now live and you may come across it on catch-up TV and social media.
If you would like to direct external friends and potential employers to the campaign, please point them to our 'I am Deaf' page on our website here:
