Disney Magic in Auslan: A First for Families

by Expression Australia | 12 September 2025

Storytime just became more magical for Deaf and hard of hearing children and their families!

For the first time in Australia, five Disney stories have been brought to life in Auslan. Through a collaboration between Expression Australia, Disney, and Birde, family can now enjoy much-loved Disney stories in a way that is fully accessible.

Why is this so important to us? Captions don't always capture the richness of language, emotion and culture for Deaf and hard of hearing children who have Auslan as their first language. Having Auslan translations means Deaf and hard of hearing children experience the Disney magic in their first language - giving them opportunities to connect with the characters, humour, and magic in a deeper way. It's about more than access; it's about inclusion.

Our team at Expression Australia was proud to produce the Auslan translations at our Collingwood office, ensuring cultural accuracy and a true sense of storytelling magic. We know how transformative it is when children see themselves and their language represented.

The Auslan Disney Tap & Play books are available exclusively through Birde. Each set includes a physical book with access to audiobook and video with Auslan translation that can be watched a smart TV by connecting through the Birde speaker, which gives families different ways to enjoy the Disney magic and their stories together.

This collaboration is a milestone for accessibility and creativity, and we're thrilled to be part of it. You can also read Disney's announcement here. Auslan translation available here.
